We have now been on the road for 4+ months.  The futaleufu was our southernmost target on our South America trip.  For me the expectations were high.  The futa is home to some amazingly fun white water and a place where we would see a bunch of our friends; Diego, Pierro and family, Liz and Alex, and all the bio bio guides.  During our re-entry into chile our board crossing was not a fun one as we had to unpack the van on both inspections.  Rolling into futa we had no lodging reservations, which is now normal for us as we trust the right place will accommodate us.  Prior to arriving I figured we would stay at the same place we stayed at 9 years ago, cara del Indio.  We even had our friend Liz tell them we were coming.  No exact date just faith they would have a cabin available for us.  When we arrived to the town, futa village, a lot had changed and at the same time not much had changed.  There was a festival going on with loud music and bouncy castles for the kids.  During our short time there we bumped into our friend Liz with her two kids Luna and sol.  Liz was the person we first meet 9 years ago when we called bio bio from futa village.  Sol is now a big kid and Luna is tabors age.  After a short hello and a grocery buy we set off down the bumpy road too cara del Indio.  It was 25km to get to cara del Indio.  We rolled in around 7pm only to find they didn't have a cabin to rent and they wouldn't for a unforeseeable time.  Deflated and in search of another option we stopped by bio bio.  There we saw our bio bio friends.  It was great to see Diego again. He was excited to see his van in one piece.  Our second option for lodging, sol de Montana which we found was also booked.  So we drove back towards town.  Around 9 pm we stopped at the lake house cabanas. Thankfully they had a room available, not the cheapest option but a place to stay.  We stayed two nights on the lake doing a little SUPing and feeding the resident rainbow trout.  We then moved to sol de Montana.  Owned and runner by Isabella and Miguel and their two kids Valentin and jaco.  We soon realized this was the absolute best place for us to stay.  During our stay the main house was rented out by the Edward family, five kids ranging from age 12-20.  Tabor and Nash had found their next tribe to spend every minute possible with.  After about 5 days we realized the futa was going to be everything we had hoped it would be.  You just have to be patient and not expect anyone to be on time or be that concerned about the details. Staying here was the most off grid living we have done on our trip thus far. With no cell coverage and wifi 10km away.  Going into town was a all day mission.  During our stay I got to go kayaking many times, Bryn got to go rafting, the kids got to play with friends, animals, and swim at the river.  We got to spend fun times with all our friends.  The highlight was being able to camp at Alex and liz's property on the rio azul.  A truly amazing view and a wonderful place to hang out with friends.  During our final 4 days it rained non stop.... cabin fever set it in quick.  We made the most of our family time playing uno and enjoying family meals.  On our last day the river gods provided with a high water run from terminator to casa.  It was the most fun I have had in a kayak during my entire trip.  Bottom line the futa delivered!!
